Expert Talk on “Why I am doing Data Science” – Centre for Distance and Online Education

In the series of International Expert talks organized by “Centre for Distance and Online Education ”, an International talk on “Why I am doing Data Science” was organized by MRCDOE on 08th October 2022, for all BCA and MCA students. The resource person for the session was Dr Haider Raza, Senior Lecturer at the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering (CSEE), University of Essex, UK. He received a PhD in Computer Science from University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, UK. His research interests and activities focus on the Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning for Decision Making, Non-stationary Learning, Brain-computer Interface, EEG/MEG Signal Processing, Computer Vision, and Computational Intelligence methods for healthcare, businesses, and environment. He works on the development of intelligent systems and practices skills on the following programming languages: Python, Matlab, and R.

During the session, Dr Haider Raza discussed the fundamentals of Data and Data Science. He explained to students that Data science is a combination of different domains like Computer Science and IT, Maths and Statistics, Domain/Business Knowledge. He also discussed how one can apply Data science in various diverse areas effectively with the knowledge of required skills. He explained the advantages and disadvantages of data science with the help of very simple examples of real time environments.

He also interacted with the students by asking queries like what are the skills required for a Data Scientist, Students also answered very well. He also appraised the students regarding the knowledge of courses to become a Data scientist. The session was highly interactive and the students demanded two to three more sessions of the same speaker.

 Dr Haider Raza ended the discussion with a lot of positivity and motivation towards the student’s career in the different domains of Information Technology.
